RAMS Girls Lacrosse Green Day CANCELLED for Tuesday January 18th by WAYDE!

RAMS,

If Wayde thinks it is cold enough outside to delay school  by 2 hours, the coaching team must accept that it is probably too cold to train outside.  We regret that our Green Day for Tuesday is cancelled due to cold temperatures.

Schedule for the remainder of the week:

Wednesday, January 20th, PHASE 2, 6:30am Riverside Weight Room

Thursday, January 21st, PHASE 2, 7am **see below**

Friday, January 22nd SNOW is predicted so DD suggested that we move PHASE 2 for Friday to Thursday and she will  give you a slight break and go 7am to 8am since we are back to back mornings.

Please bring your checks and registration for PHASE 2 on Wednesday if you have not already turned it in, Wednesday is the DEADLINE!!

Enjoy the 2 hour delay...

Riverside RAMS Girls Lacrosse Updates

RAMS,

We are so excited to get into November and compete as Riverside RAMS Girls Lacrosse at the Fall Brawl on Thanksgiving weekend!  We currently have a 14 player roster for this 7v7 event and we are ready to roll!

  • We are looking for a parent to head up a team tent for the Fall Brawl.  This job would span the length of the event, just one day:)  The Team Parent would coordinate all snack and drink contributions  for our team tent so the players have a comfortable place to hang out between games and refuel.  It is historically very cold on this day...

Couple updates moving into the next few weeks:

  • Our pre pre season speed/strength/agility program with Black Bench Fit is going so well!  The players are committed and building strength that we are seeing translate to the field.  Stay tuned for information on the next session, PRE SEASON.
  • Today begins the VHSL Dead Period.  During this period there can be no coaching, observation or contact between a coach(s) and player(s) that will participate in any fall or spring sport.  There may be no practices, open facilities, weight training/conditioning , out of season leagues or member school sponsored clinics/camps.   Translation:  we DO WILL NOT have a Green Day training this Wednesday or next Wednesday and we will not have morning BBF training this week, Wednesday or Friday, and next Wednesday morning.  BBF will resume on Friday morning, November 20th at 6:45am.
  • We are ready for a fundraiser...there are several pieces of equipment that we would like to purchase for our program and we need to raise some funds:)  Would any parent like to step up to organize a fundraiser?  This could be a spirit night at a local restaurant, mailbox decorating for the holidays, Krispy Kreme donut sale, you name it...
  • Please register for Riverside Triple Edge!!  We have a team registered to play Triple Edge this winter at NOVA Fieldhouse and we would like to see all of our RAMS out there playing this winter.  This is a game only league, and games will be played on Saturdays and Sundays

Have a wonderful week and a half and we will be officially back in touch with you after the Dead Period is over on Thursday morning.

Dedication Game and Tailgate update

RAMS...

Are we ready for yet another groundbreaking event at Riverside?  Oh YES we are!  The Dedication Game is tomorrow night and Girls Lacrosse is ready to represent our RAMnation at the game, but first at the TAILGATE right after school in the stadium lot.  Here is the scoop:

  • We will have the radar shot/dizzy sticks obstacle
  • Whipped cream pie eating contest(Thank you Lisa Broyhill for donating the whipped cream!)
  • Popcorn for sale and POSSIBLY snowcones if I can get the snowcone machine to work!!

SPREAD THE WORD to our mini RAMS!  We can use their help tomorrow at our station!  The more the merrier...just have them show up in Riverside colors or spirit wear.

AND...we are in charge of decorating Mrs Oldknow's door tomorrow morning, but since y'all will be at strength training, the coaching team is going to do that for you.   Swing by and check it out during the day...we ARE NOT artists please remember, we are lacrosse coaches doing our best to be artsy...UGH!

Strength training tomorrow morning at 6:45am in the weight room.  Please remember to eat something small before training; banana with peanut butter, piece of toast, small bowl of oatmeal, something smart.

Bulletin board project is always in effect!  I need photos for our Wall of Fame so get me great pictures at every event this weekend.   Do I need to insert the "smart social media speech" here again?   Hopefully you are up to speed with this piece of our RAMrules.

See you in the morning!

Wall of FAME...need your help!

RAMS...

I am reserving the giant bulletin board in my office for the WALL OF FAME...and I need pictures of you all doing amazing things on and off the field.  I want to build this wall each year and then use the pictures in our Banquet Slide Show, so please get involved and start filling this board!

The Dedication Dance and Game are great opportunities to take pics and either print and pop up on my board yourself or you can text them to me and I will print them.

As you are taking pictures this weekend and posting them to social media, let's be very mindful of our RAMrules.  Every time you post, tweet or favorite something, I want you to pretend that you are tagging your parents, coaches, grandparents, principal, future college coaches and employers.  Be 100% certain that they would be proud of what you are putting on social media.  If there is any question, DON'T DO IT...

Have fun this weekend, be spirited, be smart and be safe.

Big week!

RAMS,

We are having busy days at Riverside in honor of Dedication Week and we are very proud of the way YOU are representing our program...you have been caught in the act:

  • Rocking the BLUE on Monday for the BLUE OUT
  • Sporting the PJs today
  • Serving our school by participating in Dedication Day events
  • Representing Riverside Girls Lacrosse at the Dedication Ceremony, with behavior that showed respect for our school, members of the community and our honored guests.  You are defining our team climate with every action and doing an excellent job of showing our spirit in a classy, respectful manner.  Your coaches are watching and we are proud of you.

Tomorrow is another opportunity to RISE and GRIND it out with BBF in our weight room at 6:45am.  We will also have Green Day Training at 4:20pm on the top grass field.

Upcoming events:

Friday, 6:45am strength training in the weight room

Friday, 4 to 6:30pm Dedication Game Tailgate:  we will have the radar shot station, popcorn stand and snow cone station.  We are wondering about the proposed wing contest as several faculty members have us terrified that they can eat ALOT of wings!!  We are worried that we might not be able to provide enough wings to actually make this a contest...SO, we are considering switching gears to Marissa's idea of the whipped cream pie eating contest?  We will decide as a team tomorrow at the Green Day, but if we go with this we will need donations of whipped cream to make these "pies"...I can just picture this...LOL!

Also, please reach out to our MINI RAMS, to help staff our station!  These are younger siblings, friends, neighbors that will be joining our herd when they come to Riverside and we would LOVE to have them help out at our station.  Please have all volunteers report to our station in the stadium lot by 3:50pm on Friday wearing Riverside spirit wear!!

See you tomorrow and don't forget your outfits for Decade Day!

Green Day rescheduled due to MONSOON:)

We aren't afraid of a little rain, but the heavy downpours are going to take a toll on our field.  We are proactively moving our Green Day scheduled for tomorrow to FRIDAY on the top practice turf at 4:20pm to 6pm.

Additionally, please go ahead and register for our pre pre season strength training series, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 6:45am at Riverside.  Black Bench Fit will training our players in our own weight room starting THIS FRIDAY at 6:45am.  This training is not mandatory, but we are hoping that you commit to building an amazing girls lacrosse tradition at Riverside one player at a time with this specialized strength and injury prevention series.

Please use this link to register for RAM Tough/BBF pre pre season:

This week in RAM Country

RAMS,

Looking forward to another Green Day Training tomorrow, Wednesday September 23rd at 4:20pm until 6pm on the top grass field.  Please come prepared as always with stick, goggles, cleats, running shoes, mouth guard and water.

Green Training for next week will continue on Wednesday, and we will stay with the Wednesday training schedule throughout the fall.

Upcoming events:

  • Player registration for Fall Brawl will open on October 1st.  We will send out a reminder once the registration site is LIVE.
  • BBF registration for pre pre season strength and agility training will be sent this weekend to all families in preparation for the start of our RAM TOUGH Training Series.  8 weeks of training, plus benchmarking for only $85, this is a great opportunity for us to get strong, stay injury free and bond as a team in the weight room at 6:45am!!
  • Dedication Dance/Game Event:  we decided as a team to offer a radar shot activity and a chicken wing eating contest at the event prior to the Dedication Game.  We were debating a food truck vendor as well, but after further research decided to go with a popcorn and sno cone stand.  Parents, please feel free to volunteer for this fun adventure:)
  • SERVE opportunity THIS WEEK:  Help us bring Irene's Prom Closet to Riverside for girls who cannot afford a Dedication Dance dress.  On Thursday and Friday during 2nd and 6th block, we will need help setting the dresses up on racks and staging the shopping area for our students in need of a free dress.  Email us if you would like to help bring this opportunity to your classmates who might otherwise not have a dress for the dance.

See you tomorrow at training!

Off Season Strength/Speed/Agility

RAMS,

At our Girls Lacrosse Interest Meeting on September 2nd, we introduced the concept of adding a strength/speed/agility component to the RAM Girls Lacrosse Program.  We are pleased to share with you a great option for off season training, specifically designed for us by Black Bench Fit that will produce consistent and comprehensive strength and conditioning before, during and after our season. This approach will not only keep us healthy and strong but will give us the competitive athletic edge we will need to compete at the higher levels. This is an important part of our long term program development.  This fall Black Bench Fit will be benchmarking each player and using the initial benchmark to track performance and individual areas of development. Through BlackBench we will have the ability to put in place individual programs to help our players focus on specific areas when/if necessary (asymmetries, run form, movement/flexibility, specific areas of weakness and thorough injury recovery/return to play protocol).

Our program will have three phases, the first starting in October. Beginning the week of 10/5 up until Thanksgiving we will be working out two mornings a week before school from 7:00-8:00 AM. The cost of the 8-week program is $85.

Starting in December we will officially enter our pre-season and phase two of our strength and conditioning program. We will spend three days per week in the gym working on speed, strength, power and prehab. The specific details of this will be announced soon.

Tryouts for our spring season will take place the week of February 22.  Immediately following tryout week we will enter the third phase of our strength and conditioning work - maintenance. We will have at least one dedicated day per week in the gym.

Please reply directly if you are interested in participating in our fall performance program. Once we have a grasp on participation we will send you instruction about registration and workout specifics.

Keeping the HERD strong...

This week in RAM Country...

Good morning,

Big week ahead of us at Riverside as we kick off Green Day Training on Wednesday September 16th at 4:20pm on the top field behind Riverside HS.  This is not the turf, but the top grass field closest to Kipheart Drive.   Please note:

  • Training begins at 4:20 sharp.  As with all RAM Girls Lacrosse trainings, you must be on time and ready to play at 4:20.  LATE is not an option without previous communication. We will wrap up training a little after 6pm.
  • Cleats, running shoes, stick, goggles, mouth guard and water.  ALSO please bring a reversible pinnie until our Riverside pinnies are delivered.

Player registration for the Fall Brawl will open on October 1st.  Our team is registered as Riverside High School and once player registration is live, we will send a link for you to register.

The Dedication Football Game and Dance are rapidly approaching on October 9th/10th.  Riverside Girls Lacrosse wants to show up as this event like only WE CAN:)  We can provide a food truck, activity, game, whatever awesome things we can come up with, and really show our dedication to our school and the energy girls lacrosse will bring to our RAM FAM.

  • Parents!!  Please help!  We need some organization around our ideas...could you meet at the field at 5:45 during our Green Day Training and start kicking around some thoughts?  Following our training you can meet with the players and get some traction on these ideas and then we will GO TO WORK on making it happen!  If you are interested in being part of the planning for the Dedication Game/Dance Event, please let me know and start getting those ideas together!

Enjoy your weekend...

Coaches KASH, Green, Benson and Maggie
